Make Mine To Go - O2 Travel Update

Air carriers that take-off or land at a US airport are now required to allow patients to bring approved Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POCs) on board.

As of May 13, 2009, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has mandated that patients be allowed to use a POC in flight. The rules require that patients register with the airline prior to travel. Each airline has slightly different rules, so check well in advance before you travel.

There are currently 5 devices that have been approved:

  • Airsep Freestyle
  • AirSep LifeStyle
  • Invacare XPO100
  • Respironics EverGo
  • Sequal Eclipse

In addition, some airlines allow additional devices. Check with your carrier before making reservations if you own one of these additional devices.

  • Delphi Central Air *
  • Delphi Medical Systems' RS-00400 *
  • Inogen One *
  • Invacare XPO2 *

The major US airline requirements are available on their websites. The forms for certifying medical necessity are available from the pages listed here.
