Guidance on Air Travel
The revised Air Carrier Access Act regulation became
effective on May 13, 2009, applying requirements to both U.S. and
foreign air carriers (carriers) concerning the acceptance, transport,
and use of respiratory assistive devices onboard aircraft for the
first
time.
The Department of Transportation issued a new set of frequently asked
questions that provides further guidance for air carriers and the
traveling public regarding the obligation of carriers to allow the use
of four types of passenger-supplied electronic respiratory assistive
devices (i.e., ventilators, respirators, continuous positive airway
pressure [CPAP] machines, and portable oxygen concentrators [POCs]) on
aircraft.
Questions 49–58 address issues related to
the transport and use of respiratory assistive devices on aircraft.
