Primatene Mist Inhalers with CFCs Discontinued After December 31, 2011

The American Association for Respiratory Care has been asked by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to get the word out to patients and caregivers about the impending phase out of over-the-counter Primatene Mist.

According to the FDA statement:

“After December 31, 2011, Primatene Mist will no longer be an essential use of CFCs and will be subject to the Clean Air Act’s nonessential products ban, making its production, distribution, and sale illegal.”

The FDA has provided a one-page flyer in English and Spanish reminding patients about this change.
