Fluticasone, a corticosteroid, is used to prevent inflammation, wheezing, shortness of breath, or troubled breathing caused by asthma or other lung diseases. It will not relieve an asthma attack that has already started.

Typically, for adults and children 12 years of age and older, 2 puffs of Flovent metered-dose inhaler are taken two times a day.

For adults and children 4 years of age and older, 1 dose of the Flovent Rotadisk is inhaled 2 times per day.

Always shake the Flovent metered-dose inhaler well before using. Rinse your mouth well after taking fluticasone. Use this medicine as directed by your doctor. Do not stop taking this medication without first checking with your doctor.

Side effects from fluticasone are not common. Contact your doctor if any of the following symptoms are severe:

• dry, or irritated, throat and mouth
• cough
• difficult or painful speech
• diarrhea
• loss of appetite
• agitation

If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor immediately:

• skin rash
• increased difficulty breathing
• white spots or sores in your mouth
• swollen face, lower legs, ankles
• vision problems
• muscle weakness

Your doctor should check your progress at regular visits. Do not stop taking this medicine without first checking with your doctor. Check with your doctor if your condition reappears or worsens after the dose has been reduced or treatment with this medicine has stopped. Contact your doctor if you are exposed to chickenpox or measles.

Keep out of the reach of children. Store away from heat and direct light. Heat or moisture may cause the medicine to break down. For optimal results, the canister should be at room temperature before use. Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.
