Why is this medication prescribed?

Nedocromil is used to reduce airway swelling in the lungs for individuals with asthma. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication.

When should it be used?

Nedocromil must be used on a regular basis to be effective, even when you have no asthma symptoms. It is not an effective medication for use during an acute asthma episode.

Typical dosing and age-specific information:

This medication is delivered by an inhaler device and proper technique is essential. Shake the inhaler well before using. For best results, metered-dose inhalers should be used with holding chambers. Adults and children 12 years of age and over: Two puffs, four times daily, given at regular intervals, s the recommended dose.

To be of benefit, Nedocromil should be taken on a regular basis as prescribed, even when you are feeling well. It may be a week or more after starting this medicine before it's full benefit is felt. What side effects can this medication cause?

As your body adjusts to this medication, Nedocromil may cause:

  • dry or irritated throat
  • hoarseness
  • bad taste in the mouth
  • headache
  • nausea

What other precautions should I follow while using this medication?

Store the inhaler at room temperature between 59°F-86°F, away from heat and open flame.
