Why is this medication prescribed?

Nedocromil is used to reduce airway swelling in the lungs for individuals with asthma. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication.

When should it be used?

Nedocromil must be used on a regular basis to be effective, even when you have no asthma symptoms. It is not an effective medication for use during an acute asthma episode.

Typical dosing and age-specific information:

This medication is delivered by an inhaler device and proper technique is essential. Shake the inhaler well before using. For best results, metered-dose inhalers should be used with holding chambers. To view a diagram and instruction for using a metered-dose inhaler, click on the following link:

Adults and children 12 years of age and over: Two puffs, four times daily, given at regular intervals, s the recommended dose.

Always follow doctor's orders when taking any medication.

How should this medication be used?

To be of benefit, Nedocromil should be taken on a regular basis as prescribed, even when you are feeling well. It may be a week or more after starting this medicine before it's full benefit is felt. Proper inhaler technique is essential to receiving an effective dose and maximizing the medication's effectiveness.

What special instructions should I follow while using this medication?

Use this medicine as directed by your doctor. Do not stop taking this medication without first checking with your doctor.

What side effects can this medication cause?

As your body adjusts to this medication, Nedocromil may cause:

  • dry or irritated throat
  • hoarseness
  • bad taste in the mouth
  • headache
  • nausea

If side effects continue, or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

What other precautions should I follow while using this medication?

Understand that this medication will not stop an acute asthma episode. While using Nedocromil, if your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, call your doctor right away.

What storage conditions are necessary for this medication?

Store the inhaler at room temperature between 59°F-86°F, away from heat and open flame.
